As he closes his letter to the Ephesians, Paul writes, "And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints. Pray also for me, that whenever I open my mouth, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should." He knew that the power of his ministry, even under persecution and imprisonment, was in the prayer of the church.
Today, prayer is still the way God chooses to empower His workers around the world. You and I can be actively involved in what He's doing worldwide by praying for His Name to be exalted and His will to be accomplished through the lives of brothers and sisters we've never met.
The International Mission Board offers a variety of email newsletters containing specific prayer requests for workers in a variety of regions. Adopt a country, pray daily for God to be made famous in that place, and enjoy seeing how He blesses your obedience.
Voice of the Martyrs is another incredible organization, helping to shed light on the plight of the persecuted church around the world as well as offering excellent suggestions for how to pray for these suffering saints.
I Thessalonians 5:16-18 ~ Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.
