This week, I'm working on a workshop for teenage girls revolving around the theme of true beauty. I've been polling friends about their thoughts on beauty as well as trying to articulate my own opinions on the matter. I've read some great quotes, heard some very interesting ideas, and found myself being much more attune to my own notions of beauty. But, trying to define an idea is like trying to grab hold of a handful of water. It mostly escapes me.
This morning, I am pondering the idea of beauty once again, and one thought is pervassive. Jesus is beautiful. He is the common denominator in all that I can definitively call beauty. Whether one's concept of beauty stems from a physical form or an inner character radiating outward, all of it comes back to Him. His grace. His glory. His light made manifest in His creation.
"He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together." Colossians 1:15-17
