My current facebook status says, "Kristen wants to remember this day." I wrote that yesterday evening after the election results were tallied, and I'd listened to two very well-delivered speeches. I was laying on the floor, listening to the speeches, and watching facebook status updates. I was disappointed by how many people, disappointed that their candidate did not win the election, boldly declared they were turning off the television and going to bed.
Last night, whether you were a fan of the election's outcome or not, you had the opportunity to witness history, and I truly hope you didn't miss it or take it for granted. I didn't vote for Barack Obama, but I will pray for him. I do not necessarily like the choice America made last night, but I am so thankful that we had the freedom to make a choice. And while I am aware that the constitution of this great nation gives you the right to speak freely about your opinions on these matters, I would submit to those of you who are followers of Christ that a much greater law would encourage you to measure your words carefully, to let no unwholesome talk proceed from your mouth, to pray for your rulers, and to honor those in authority over you. Those of you who know me personally know that, for me, one of the most convicting verses in the Bible is Proverbs 10:19, "When there are many words, transgression is unavoidable, but he who restrains his lips is wise."
History is happening. What part will you play?
